Abbeville County Sheriff Charles Goodwin has pleaded guilty to misconduct in office.
Goodwin entered the plea in Greenville on Friday.
He was accused of taking kickbacks on repairs on county vehicles. Goodwin also was accused of using a state inmate to do work for the sheriff and his friends.
He's been placed on probation for five years and will pay nearly $4,500 in restitution.
Goodwin has been sheriff since 1988.
Prosecutors say Goodwin had county vehicles serviced at a body shop from 1998 to 2011 and took a share of the money the county was paying for the repairs.
